Herencia de Timbiquí
Herencia de Timbiquí is a Colombian group comprised of Afro-descendant musicians using modern and traditional native instruments.
Herencia de Timbiquí began in the year 2000 and is made up of musicians of African descent, who have taken on the task of retaking the empirical musical knowledge of the Colombian Pacific and fusing it with elements of contemporary urban music, in order to produce a sound centered on the black roots of the Colombian Pacific coast.
In its beginnings, the group interpreted the music of the Pacific in a native way with instruments such as the Marimba, Bombo Golpeador, Bombo Arullador, Cununo Macho, Cununo Hembra, Tres Voces and the Guasa for the interpretation of traditional Colombian genres (Currulao, Bunde, Juga, Arrullos, Abozaos, Bereju, Bambazu and Porro among others). Then, aiming to sound more original, they chose to orchestrate the typical basic ensemble, adding conventional musical instruments from orchestras such as bass, keyboards, trumpet, sax, electric guitar and drums.
