Las Áñez

Las Áñez is a twin sister duo combining Colombian traditional and folk with pop and electronic music.

BOOK

The music of the Áñez twins is designed to be performed live with a loop pedal and small instruments. The duo's concerts include songs from their four award-winning albums, which have captivated audiences in ten countries across the Americas and Europe with their unique blend of folklore and the avant-garde.

The Áñez sisters are Juanita and Valentina Añez Rothmann. Both sisters sing on all their songs, half of which are composed and arranged by each of them, and they are the producers of their first three albums. Juanita plays the cuatro and percussion, and Valentina is a pianist and percussionist.

Workshop: “Concert for just two voices”

“Concert for just two voices” is a talk/workshop led by Las Áñez in which the duo talks about and demonstrates how, starting from minimalism and the generation of essential sounds with the voice, they construct a complete and powerful concert for both intimate spaces and outdoor festivals.

Depending on whether there is a sound system and time to rehearse, they would talk about how voices are used as accompaniment with the loop pedal. The technical level of the talk is variable. They can talk more about the theory and process with general audiences and can lead a more technical workshop if the audience is made up of music students or professional musicians.

“A gorgeous performance...two vocals and just a little bit of instrumentation and it's a whole band.”

KEXP

Las Áñez are twin sisters singing their own Latin-American songs in a unique way. Their combination of folklore and contemporary music has captivated and beguiled the public across South America and Europe.

On stage, Las Áñez fill every corner of their resonant medium and make listeners enter a hypnotic resounding ritual. The natural and versatile sound of this vocal duet from Colombia is accompanied by themselves with minimal percussion series, a small keyboard and a loop station.
